1. Justice Altamas Kabir appointed as the New Chief Justice of India
Justice Altamas Kabir has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of India. He will take oath as 39th Chief Justice of India and assume his office on 29 September 2012 as a Successor of Chief Justice S.H. Kapadia. S.H. Kapadia will relinquish from his office on 28 September 2012. Altamas Kabir at present is the senior-most Judge of the Supreme Court.
2. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud elected as New President of Somalia.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud won the presidential elections of Somalia. He won the election by gaining 190 votes to 79 in the second round of competition. Alliances were formed between the Prime Minister Abdiweli Ali and Hassan Sheikh.
3. Bank of India opened its first branch in South Africa
State-owned Bank of India (BoI) opened its first branch in Johannesburg South Africa in a move to enhance the relationship between South Africa and India while contributing to the overall development of the BRICS grouping.
4. Railways won the 52nd National Open Athletics Championships
Railways lifted the overall Trophy in the 52nd National Open Athletics Championships today. The sporting event took place in Chennai. Railways finished at the top with a total of 327 points. Services athletes finished runners-up with 138 points. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation clinched the third position with 114 points.
5.Tilak Kumar appointed as new President of the Indian Newspaper Society
K.N. Tilak Kumar was appointed as the president of The Indian Newspaper Society for the year 2012-2013 today during the 73rd annual meet of the Newspaper Society.

Healthcare Excellence Award-2012 went to the Jaipur based Fortis Escorts hospital for its operational excellence in the category of private hospital with multi-specialty hundred beds. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry has instituted this award for felicitation of the individuals and institutions for their cyiontribution in increasing the efficiency of health care by imparting innovative steps. The laid norms were specified by the Quality Council of India.
7. India, Myanmar and Thailand decided to implement Trilateral Connectivity Project by 2016
India, Myanmar and Thailand on 10 September 2012 reviewed the eagerly awaited trilateral connectivity project and decided to make all efforts to implement this by 2016. This was done at the meeting of the India-Myanmar-Thailand Joint Task Force, which met in New Delhi.
8. Sheryl Kumar was Crowned as Miss India Fiji 2012
Sheryl Kumar was crowned Miss India Fiji 2012 at a glittering ceremony in Suva on 8 September 2012. Sheryl beat nine other contestants to win the title. She is now preparing for the Miss India Worldwide pageant to be held in Kuala Lumpur in March 2013.
Sheryl also won the Pure Fiji Beautiful Skin award at the event.
9. India topped the chart of registered largest number of under five deaths in 2011
In the Child Mortality Estimates Report 2012 published recently, by United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), India was placed at the top position in the chart of 10 countries that topped on the chart. The other countries with their names on the chart are Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, China, Pakistan, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
10. Smiling Armadillo to be the official Mascot of 2014 FIFA World Cup, Brazil
A Smiling Armadillo is declared to be the official mascot for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The reports state that FIFA has registered the patent for this rare animal with the European Patent Office as a symbol to this extreme sporting event.
