Reasoning Quiz on Statements & Assumptions

Directions (1-10): You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions/inferences and decide which of those is /are implicit in the statement. 
Give answers-
(1) If only I is Implicit                            (2) If only II is Implicit
(3) If either I or II is Implicit                   (4) If neither I nor II is Implicit
(5) If both I and II are Implicit

1.      Statement: An advertisement in the newspaper-“Learn a foreign language course to get a cash paying job”.
Assumptions:
I. All those who learn foreign language get highly paid jobs.
II. Only a foreign language can get someone a high paying job.

2.      Statement:  The school environment for students should be made “free from fear, trauma and anxiety” to make the right to education a grand national movement.
Assumptions:
I. The right to education movement is desirable for the betterment of society
II. Children feel a lot of anxiety and stress at school

3.      Statement: A leading actor bought a tortoise for $400 million in order to save it from the hands of an illegal animal trader?
Assumptions:
I. The tortoise would sell for a bigger amount than what the actor bought it for
II. The tortoise faces danger in the hands of the animal trader.

4.      Statement: A leading car manufacturer has re-introduced a new model of existing car with modified and peppy looks but with the same engine?
Assumptions:
I. Engine’s performance is not as important as the looks of the car
II. Looks of the vehicle are important to the buyers.

5.      Statement: As the existing sanctuaries failed to protect the lions from poachers, the state government decided to open two new sanctuaries in the same area.
Assumptions:
I. These are not enough lions left to the protect from the poachers
II. Keeping lions n captivity rather than in sanctuaries can ensure their safety from the poachers.

6.    Statement: ‘you are hereby appointed as a programmer with a probation period of one year and your performance will be reviewed at the end of the period for confirmation’ – A line in an appointment letter
Assumptions:
I. The performance of an individual generally is not known at the time of appointment offer.
II. Generally an individual tries to prove his worth in the probation period.

7.    Statement: It is desirable to put the child in school at the age of 5 or 50.
Assumptions:
I. At this age the child reaches appropriate level of development and is ready to learn.
II. The schools do not admit children after six years of age.

8.    Statement: ‘In order to bring punctuality in our office, we must provide conveyance allowance to our employees’ – In change of a company tells personal manager.
Assumptions:
I. Conveyance allowance will not help in bringing punctuality
II. Discipline and reward should always go hand in hand

9.    Statement: Safety and health practices in many Indian companies are well below the International standards.
Assumptions:
I. International standard of health and safety are ideal and unrealistic.
II. Indian organizations do not consider safety and health management as their prime social responsibility.

10.  Statement: Beware of dogs, our dogs do not bark but they are trained to distinguish between genuine guests and intruders.
Assumptions:
I. Barking dogs bite rarely.
II. Our dogs could be dangerous for intruders.

7. (1) The performance of the individual has to be tasted over a span of time as the statement mentions. So I is implicit. The statement mentions that the individual’s worth shall be reviewed (during probation period) before confirmation so II is also implicit.

8. (2): Assumption I goes against the statement. So, it is not implicit. The allowance will serve as a reward to the employees and shall provoke them to come on time. So, II is implicit.

9. (2): I is not implicit. It is clearly criticism of Indian organizations not paying considerable attention to those aspects. So, II is implicit.


10. (2) The statement clearly warns the visitors to beware of dogs as they are trained to welcome the guest and intruders differently. So, II is implicit. I is vague and hence, It is not implicit.
