NOTE:- Established in 1965, the Viswakarma temple at Kamakhya Gate in Guwahati, Assam is perhaps the only temple of Lord Viswakarma of the country, here also devotees in large number offered puja today.
2. Sunita Williams becomes second woman in history to take command of the International Space Station.
Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams has taken over the command of the International Space Station. She became the second woman in history to do so. The three other member crew of the Expedition 32 returned safely to earth, wrapping up a mission lasting more than four months. The three-men crew onboard a Russian-made Soyuz capsule touched down successfully in central Kazakhstan this morning after spending 123 days at the Sopace Station.
3.Shimla Municipal Corporation introduced Green Tax on vehicles entering Shimla
Shimla Municipal Corporation on 15 September 2012 introduced Green Tax on Shimla entry of vehicles not registered in Himachal Pradesh. The Corporation Commissioner M.P. Sood stated that the vehicles crossing the entry points of the town will have to pay the imposed tax. The tax will be imposed on automobiles on both commercial and non-commercial category.
4. SEBI notifies new governance rules for depositories
Market regulator SEBI has notified new governance rules for the depositories including those related to composition of their boards, salaries of top officials and their listing.
5. RBI Rference Rate for US Dollar, Euro, Pound and Yen released
The Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference rate of the rupee for the US dollar at 55.4430 and the euro at 71.6160 as against 55.2605 per dollar and 71.1310 per euro on 12/09/2012.
In a press release issued by RBI, the exchange rates for the pound and yen against the rupee were quoted at 89.3076 a pound and 71.33 per 100 yen, based on reference rates for the US dollar and cross-currency quotes at noon.
6. Reserve Bank of India Cuts Cash Reserve Ratio by 25 points; cut will bring in additional liquidity of Rs. 17000 crore in the banking system.
The Reserve Bank of India has released the Mid-Quarter Review of Monetary Policy 2012-13. Giving relief to the bankers, the RBI has reduced the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) by 25 basis points from 4.75 per cent to 4.50 per cent. Cut in CRR will bring in additional liquidity of 170 billion in the banking system. CRR cut would be effective from September 22nd. The RBI has kept all the other key policy rates unchanged.
7. After RBI’s CRR cut, Rupee at four month high of 54.01
The rupee today surged to 53.66 a dollar on robust capital inflows but pared some gains to close at 54.01 - 29 paise higher and a four month high rate.
8. IRCTC introduced Interbank Mobile Payment System
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited introduced the Interbank Mobile Payment System (IMPS) for making the payment of the bookings via mobile phones. On use of IMPS system, the user will be charged with Rs 5 for transactions of up to Rs 5000 and Rs 10 for transactions more than that.
The facility of booking via IMPS will be available to those with their phone number registered in the respective bank accounts as the M-Pin and the MMID (Mobile money identifier) will be required for furnishing the details required. This facility will ensure smooth and functioning of the booking criteria via SMSs.
9. Indian Women won SAF Football Championship 2012
Indian Women registered a thumping win over Nepal in the final of SAF Football Championship in Colombo. India defeated Nepal by 3-1. India had defeated Bhutan and Sri Lanka in the league stage and thrashed Afghanistan 11-0 in the semis to romp into the final.
10. Liberty Medal awarded to Muhammad Ali, the Boxing Champion
The boxing Champion, Muhammad Ali who retired from the game in the year 1981 was honoured with Liberty Medal in Philadelphia. The boxer who has been battling with Parkinson disease for the past 30 years was awarded with the honor for his contribution towards the humanitarian causes like religious freedom and civil rights.

12.Anuraag Thakur, BCCI Joint Secretary became a member of Asian Cricket Council
Anuraag Thakur a BJP MP from Hamirpur and Joint Secretary of Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) was appointed as a member of Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC’s) executive board.
Thakur has served the National Cricket Academy as its vice-chairman and a member with National Junior Selection Committee.
NOTE:- ACC is a 25 member committee with its head quarters in Kuala Lumpur. The committee is engaged in development and promotion of the cricketers in Asian region.

Finance Minister P. Chidambaram pitched for institutionalization of a National Investment Board under the leadership of Prime Minister. The formation of the board will help in speeding the approval of the proposals, for the mega projects and their implementation. In an interactive meeting with senior officials of AIR and Doordarshan Kendras of Odisha in Bhubaneswar today, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Prasar Bharati, Jawahar Sarkar, said this move will not only make Prasar Bharati more compact but help in managing the news set-up more professionally.

Tamil Nadu Govt. today opened the Mettur Dam for irrigation in Cauvery delta districts of Thanjavur, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur. More than 4 lakh 71 thousand hectare farm land will be irrigated by the move taken.

Market regulator SEBI has notified new governance rules for the depositories including those related to composition of their boards, salaries of top officials and their listing.
- As per the regulations notified by SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India), a depository board would have to include shareholder directors, public interest directors and managing director.
- Besides, the chairperson would have to be elected from amongst the public interest directors, whose number cannot be less than the number of shareholder directors.
- On the other hand, the Managing Director cannot be included in either the category of public interest directors or shareholder directors.
