2. Long range strategic missile Agni-IV test-fired
India today test-fired its nuclear-capable strategic missile Agni-IV with a strike range of about 4000 km from a test range off Odisha coast.
It was test launched with the help of a mobile launcher from launch complex-4 of ITR at Wheeler Island, about 100 km from Balasore, at about 1145 hours.
3. Dr A.A Manavalan conferred on 21st Saraswati Samman
The noted Tamil writer Dr A.A Manavalan has been conferred on the 21st Saraswati Samman for the year 2011 at a function in New Delhi today. The award was given to him by the Corporate Affairs Minister Mr M. Veerappa Moily for his book 'Irama Kathaiyum Iramayakalyum' published in 2005.

Lawmakers united by their respect of Myanmar democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi have presented her with Congress' highest civilian honor in a ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda.

The data presented by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) claimed that the low cost airlines Indigo emerged as the leading carrier in the month of August by carrying 12.05 lakh domestic passengers out of 43.69 lakh passengers. Indigo shared a total of 27.6 percent of the market share.
Share of other airlines are as follows
1. Jet Airways-18.7 percent
2. Spice Jet- 18.5 Percent
3. Air India- 18.2 percent
10. Union Government decided to launch Saksham to Educate Adolescent Boys
The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development today decided to launch a scheme called Saksham to empower adolescent boys by educating them on gender sensitivity and moral behaviour. Saksham aims to target young boys in the age group 10-18 years for their holistic development by giving lessons in gender sensitivity and inculcating in them respect for women.
