Eid Al Adha is being celebrated with joy and festivities in Dubai and most of the West Asia region today. Millions of faithfuls offered prayers at the mosques . The prayers are followed by the sacrifice rituals.
2. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna resigned
External Affairs Minister S M Krishna has resigned ahead of the reshuffle of the Union Cabinet.
NOTE:- The senior leader from Karnataka has sent his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who has forwarded it to the President. Mr. Krishna said, he wanted to work for the party and give a chance to youngsters to work for the government.
3. India, Spain sign pact to curb black money and to prevent tax evasion
India and Spain have signed pacts to curb black money and prevent tax evasion. The two countries also agreed to amend the existing protocol for avoidance of double taxation.
NOTE:- An MoU for enhancing defence cooperation and agreements for technical cooperation between the two railways were also inked apart from road transport sector and joint production of films.
The pacts were signed after delegation level talks held between the visiting king of Spain Juan Carlos 1 and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Friday.
4. Infant mortality rate comes down by 3 points
According to a press release by Union Health Ministry, Infant mortality rate in India has come down to 44 from 47 deaths per 1,000 live births over the last one year.
5. Strategic Thinker and Analyst Brahma Chellaney won Bernard Schwartz Award
India's leading strategic thinker and analyst, Brahma Chellaney won the 2012 Asia Society Bernard Schwartz Book Award for his recently published book "Water: Asia's New Battleground".
Former Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister of India, Late Babu Jagjivan Ram was awarded with the Friends of Liberation War Honour by the Government of Bangladesh for his contribution in the 1971 War. He was given the honour by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina and President of Bangladesh, Mohammad. Zillur Rahman.
NOTE:- The award was received by Babuji's grandson, Anshul Avijit at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka. Anshul Avijit, is a journalist and academician and also the son of Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Meira Kumar.

Chief Minister of Kerela, Oommen Chandy declared that Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) would execute the Kochi Metro Rail Project in association with E. Sreedharan in next 3 years.
9. Italian court sentenced former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to four years jail for tax fraud
An Italian court today sentenced former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to four years in jail for tax fraud in connection with the purchase of broadcasting rights by his Mediaset television company. NOTE:- Berlusconi has the right to appeal the ruling, two more times before a definite sentence, and will not have to serve any time in jail until his final appeal is heard.
10. Govt. announced to provide subsidy of 20 rupees per kilogram on the import of pulses to the States
Govt. will provide a subsidy of 20 rupees per kilogram on the import of pulses to the States. This is to meet the mismatch between the demand and supply of pulses. The decision has also been taken in the wake of lower acreage under pulses and a delayed monsoon. The maximum amount of subsidy to a state will be paid in proportion with the number of BPL cards.
11. Vijay K. Nambiar and 5 Indo-American Malyalees to be honoured at New York
Veteran Indian Diplomat Vijay K. Nambiar along with five Indo-American Malayalees would be honoured at New York by Indian American Kerala Cultural and Civic Center.
The honour would be conferred for their service to the society and outstanding contributions in the respective field of specialization.
NOTE:- These awardees would be honoured on 3 November 2012 during the annual banquet in the Long Island and they are Vijay K. Nambiar, Geeta Menon, Joy Kuttiyani, Viju Menon, Narayanan Neithalath and Roy Thomas.
12. IGMRI and CWC Signed MoU for Post Harvest Management of Foodgrains
Department of Food & Public Distribution under Ministry of Consumer Affairs, and Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for creating a Centre of Excellence focusing on capacity building in the areas of post harvest management of food grain by providing training on latest developments to the aspirants internationally.
13. The 2nd India-Japan 2+2 Dialogue held in Tokyo
The 2nd India-Japan 2+2 Dialogue was held in Tokyo. These 2+2 consultations at Senior Official level are mandated by the Action Plan to Advance Security Cooperation concluded between India and Japan from December 2009.
In this context, both nations reviewed bilateral security and defence cooperation and discussed ways of further expanding such ties. The two sides also exchanged views on maritime, cyber and outer space security. They agreed to an early meeting of the new India – Japan Cyber Security Dialogue. They also discussed the regional and international security situation.
NOTE:- The next and the 3rd round of the India – Japan 2+2 Dialogue will be held at New Delhi at a mutually convenient date.
