1. (1) Indian-American entrepreneur Karl Mehta has been selected among the 18 'Presidential Innovation Fellows' who will work on five 'high-impact' projects in the US capital.
                 
2. (2) Shashank Srivastava is appointed QFC Authority Chief Executive Officer and Board Member.

3. (2) Senior IAS officer Arun Kumar Jain has been appointed as the new secretary general in National Human Rights Commission. Jain, a 1977-batch IAS officer of Nagaland cadre, is the adviser of Inter State Council Secretariat under Ministry of Home Affairs, a Department of Personnel and Training.

4. (1) Iffco, India's largest fertiliser company, will invest $800 million to set up a urea plant in Canada where it can dip into cheap and abundant supply of natural gas and boost supplies for the country, which is a large importer of farm nutrients.

6. (4) India has put behind Thailand to become the top rice exporter. For the first time in four years, India has overtaken Thailand in rice exports. According to industry estimates, India exported 2.3 million tonne of rice including basmati between October 2011 and January 2012 while Thailand could export around 2 million tonne during the period.
     
7. (2) The World Bank has offered a $500 million loan to support secondary education in India. The loan will be used to finance Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), a government initiative to promote secondary education in the country. “The Objective of the project is to help India to achieve increased and more equitable access to good quality secondary education through support of the government’s ongoing programme for secondary education,”.   

8. (3) Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff will lead a campaign against female foeticide launched by the Bihar government to prevent the rampant killing of girl child in the state. Health minister Ashwini Choubey offered him to join the Bihar government's campaign called Bitiya Bachao Andolan (Save the daughter movement) to raise awareness among the people in the state, especially in the rural areas, against the killing of girl child in her mother's womb.

9. (3)Maharashtra government has proposed a special financial incentive scheme aimed at bringing under its ambit girls from below poverty line (BPL) families. 'Lek Soniyachi', named after UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Under the scheme, an amount of Rs 21,200 will be deposited in the name of each girl child belonging to BPL family with insurance company. After the girl attains age of 18, the amount of Rs one lakh will be paid to her.

(3) Dr. Manmohan Singh gave away the 21st crore Aadhaar card to Bali Bai of Kurawad village in Udaipur district, while Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) chairman Nandan Nilekani pointed out that the names of over 24 crore citizens were registered for issue of cards in the past two years.
The first Aadhaar card was issued in Maharashtra on September 29, 2010. Adhaar card users can now directly access as many as six government schemes.
