1.General consensus to redefine juvenile age from 18 to 16 yrs in view of rape cases: Shinde
NOTE: Home Minister says that there was a general consensus in the meeting of Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police of the States in New Delhi to redefine the juvenile age from 18 years to 16 years to deal the growing cases of sexual assault.
On death penalty in rape cases, the Home Minister said all suggestions put forward by the Chief Secretaries and DGPs would be considered by the Government. He said by April 2013, important citizen services will be launched.2.P.A. Sangma launches NPP, forms alliance with NDA:

3.Indian economy may grow 6% in 2013: Kaushik Basu
India's economy could expand by around 6% in 2013, World Bank chief economist Kaushik Basu said on Friday, attributing the current slowdown to global factors.
Amid global slowdown impacting India, the government had lowered the country's economic growth for the 2012-13 fiscal to 5.7-5.9% from its earlier projection of 7.6%. The GDP had expanded by 6.5% in 2011-12, which was nine-year low.
4.Gross direct tax collections up 8 %:
NOTE: According to a Finance Ministry: Led by strong growth in personal income tax collections, gross direct tax collections increased by 8.01 per cent to Rs.4.28 lakh crore in the first nine months of the current fiscal from Rs.3.97 lakh crore in the same period in the previous year.
i. Gross collections of corporate taxes showed an increase of 4.94 per cent at Rs.2.83 lakh crore (Rs.2.70 lakh crore). Net direct tax collections (gross minus refunds) were up by 13.7 per cent to Rs.3.68 lakh crore (Rs.3.24 lakh crore).

The government had also warned evaders of excise, Customs and service tax to pay their dues or face penal action which could include arrest, prosecution and property attachment.

NOTE: The first successful and healthy intestinal transplant surgery in India was given to a Himanshu, a 30-year-old software engineer on 24 November 2012 at Medanta Medicity, Gurgaon.
The chairman managing director of Medanta, Dr Naresh Trehan announced that this was the first successful intestinal transplant in India and it provided new hopes to the country. Himanshu waited for two years before he got lucky with a matched organ. On November 24, 2012, doctors found a perfect match. A 20-year-old patient who had passed away had the same blood group and was fit to donate.

9.Bank of Switzerland Pay 58 Million Dollar to US in Tax Evasion Case:
The bank was blamed for assisting around 100 US clients in hiding huge amount of money in the overseas accounts from federal tax collection agency.
NOTE: The oldest bank of Switzerland, Wegelin & Co became first foreign bank that pleaded guilty in the United States for the case of tax evasion.
Wegelin & Co which laid its foundation in 1741 entered its statement in federal court of Manhattan and agreed to pay a sum of 20 million dollar as a repayment to the IRS, 22 million dollar fine, apart from additional 15.8 million dollar which represented the gross fees that the bank earned on undeclared accounts of the US taxpayers between the time duration of 2002 to 2011. The bank admitted on 3 January 2013 that it assisted various American clients to conceal over 1.2 billion dollar from Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
10.Delhi Transport Corporation won the Lowest Accident Rate Award for 2012:
NOTE: The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) was awarded with the Lowest Accident Rate Award for 2012. The awards were presented by the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU) and were received by Rajeev Verma, Chairperson cum Managing Director of DTC. The award includes a cash reward of 50000 rupees and a trophy.
