1.Former Navy Chief Nirmal Verma appointed as Indian envoy to Canada
Nirmal Verma, the former navy chief appointed as India’s high commissioner to Canada. His appointment to the post happened on the recommendation of the PMO to the president, who cleared his name for the vacancy.
2.Indian Air Force honours Saina Nehwal in Hyderabad
Indian Air Force today honoured India’s Ace Shuttler Saina Nehwal in Hyderabad. She flew a Surya Kiran Trainer Jet as part of her felicitation held at the Dundigal Air Force Academy.She is the third sportsperson after cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni who have been accorded the honour of flying Kiran Mk II aircraft used to train pilots as a co-pilot.
3.Nepal Govt forms Committee to probe Sita Air plane crash
Nepal government has formed a 5 member probe Committee headed by former Tourism Secretary Nagendra Prasad Ghimire to probe Sita Air plane crash that took place on the outskirts of capital Kathmandu this morning and has been directed to submit its report within three months.. Nineteen people were killed including three crew members.
NOTE:- Among the dead, there were seven British nationals, five Chinese and seven Nepalese citizens.
4. Centre waives off spectrum fee for Community Radio Services
Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has decided to waive off spectrum fee for Community Radio Services (CRS). This follows requests received from National Advisory Council, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Community Radio Association.
5. BJP amends party constitution; gives Chief Nitin Gadkari second term
BJP President Nitin Gadkari is all set to get second term as the party has amended its Constitution by passing a resolution which enables the party President to enjoy two consecutive terms of three years each. This will pave the way for Mr. Gadkari to continue as BJP president for three more years.
6. World Wrestling Championship: Babita Kumari clinches bronze
Babita Kumari (51kg) became only the second Indian woman wrestler to grab a medal in the World Championships when she clinched a bronze in the 51 Kg event at Edmonton, Canada.
7. No ban on release of new LPG connections: Petro Ministry
Petroleum Ministry has clarified that there is no ban on release of new LPG connections. The clarification has come in the wake of a media report saying that state-run oil marketing companies are imposing an indefinite countrywide ban on issuing fresh cooking gas connections following government's decision to cap the supply of subsidized LPG cylinders.
8. Election Commission prohibited use of animals in Election Campaigns
Election commission directed the Political Parties and candidates not to use birds and animals in the campaigns. The commission also directed that in case the use of animal is unavoidable then the party or candidate will have to ensure that no harm is caused to the animal including violation of any law as well as cruelty towards the creature.
9. Tata Group got an extension to manage the Taj Mansingh for another year
In a meeting held in between the NDMC Chairperson, Archna Arora and Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dixit, the decision was made that the New Delhi Municipal Council’s Taj Mansingh Property will be managed by the Indian Hotels Company (IHC) for another one year. The property has been managed by the Indian Hotels Company for past 34 years and its lease to manage the property was about to expire this year.
10. Former NSA Brajesh Mishra passes away
Brajesh Chandra Mishra, former national security advisor and principal secretary to the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away on Friday evening in a Delhi hospital.
