1.Nation payed homage to Mahatma Gandhi & Lal Bahadur Shastri
Nation pays homage to the Father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 143 birth anniversary today. An all-religion prayer was held at his memorial at Raj Ghat in Delhi this morning.
Several functions are being organised across the country to mark the occasion.
The nation also remembers former Prime Minister Late Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 108th birth anniversary today.
2.India, Austria signs MoU to strengthen bilateral cooperation
India and Austria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for strengthening long-term relationship and bilateral Cooperation on Road and Rail Infrastructure.
NOTE:- The agreement was signed between the Minister of Railways and Road Transport and Highways, Dr. C.P.Joshi and visiting Federal Minister of Transport, Innovation and Technology of Austria, Mrs. Doris Burse in New Delhi.
3.President confers prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration to noted Scientist, Tessy Thomas.
The President Mr. Pranab Mukherjee conferred the prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management for the year 2012 to Ms. Tessy Thomas at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
NOTE: - Known as the Missile woman, a key scientist at Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ms Thomas has contributed in various fields such as Guidance, Control, Inertial Navigation, Trajectory Simulation and Mission Design. She is the first woman scientist to head a missile project in the country.
Ms Thomas has been associated with the Agni Programme right from the developmental stages and has designed the guidance scheme for long range missile systems which are used in all Agni missiles.
At present, Ms Thomas is the Project Director of Agni -IV, which is a major project with state of the art technologies.
4. 2nd phase of Indian housing project in Lanka from Today
India today launched the second phase of its ambitious housing project on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, for war displaced people of Northern Sri Lanka. In this phase, 43 thousand houses will be built over a period of 3 years.
5. Georgia’s president concedes election defeat, says opposition will form new government
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili today conceded defeat in the parliamentary election and said an opposition coalition led by a billionaire businessman now has the right to form a government
6. Kingfisher Airlines declared a partial lock-out suspending flight operations till Thursday.
Kingfisher Airlines last night declared a partial lock-out with immediate effect and suspended flight operations till Thursday. The operation came to a grinding halt following a strike by a section of its employees.
7. FICCI urges Centre to ban bauxite exports
Trade body Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has urged the Union ministry of commerce and industry to ban bauxite exports fearing closure of alumina refineries for shortage of the key raw material required to produce alumina.
8. Uttar Pradesh hit with Integrated Low Cost Sanitation Scam
An alleged scam of lakhs of rupees has surfaced in the implementation of Integrated Low Cost Sanitation Scheme (ILCS) in various districts of Uttar Pradesh during the years of 2009- 10 and 2010-11.
9. ICC to review code after Sri Lanka switches captain
Sri Lanka switched the captaincy in its last World Twenty20 group match against England on Monday to avoid Mahela Jayawardene being banned for slow bowling again. Jayawardene was fined on Saturday for a slow over-rate in the win over West Indies, and faced a one-match ban if the team was slow again against England, and he was in charge.
The International Cricket Council didn’t specifically address the issue today but said it will review the rules in the tournament aftermath.
10.India, China consumer spending to rise to $10 trillion by 2020
Consumers in India and neighbouring China are expected to spend nearly $10 trillion on goods and services a year by 2020, which is three times the amount spent in 2010, global research and advisory firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG) said today.
