1. November 10 Declared as Malala day by United Nation
The United Nations declared November 10 as Malala Day in honour of Pakistani teenage rights activist Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head by the Taliban in October 2012 for advocating girls’ education.
NOTE:- The day 10 November marks the 30-day anniversary of the Taliban attack on the 15-year-old Malala Yousafzai, the education campaigner from Pakistan.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon asserted that Malala Yousafzai is an inspiration for girls’ education the world over.
2. Andhra Pradesh DGP V. Dinesh Reddy appointed as the President of IHF
V. Dinesh Reddy, the Director-General of Police for Andhra Pradesh has been appointed as the New President of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF). Dinesh Reddy replaced R.K. Shetty after he resigned from the post.
NOTE:- Reddy’s elevation to the post happened because he was the senior most Vice-President of the organization after R.K. Shetty and would be at the post till next elections of the federation takes places.
3. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director David Petraeus Resigned
CIA Director David Petraeus resigned as head of the leading US spy agency shocking the intelligence community. His resignation came on his personal choice after he had engaged in an extramarital affair and acknowledged that he showed extremely poor judgment.
NOTE:- The president of US Barack Obama had accepted David Petraeus' resignation and praisied him for his work at the Central Intelligence Agency and for leading US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
4. Nepal has been elected as a board member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister, K. Saraswat, had asserted that the attacker, a modified Prithvi missile, would take off from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur district of Odisha, mimicking an enemy missile while the interceptor would blast off from the Wheeler Island and pounce on the attacker in endo-atmosphere at an altitude of 15 km to 16 km.
NOTE:- The interceptor missile is called Advanced Air Defence (AAD) system and it race at a supersonic speed to intercept the attacker and destroy it.
6. 18th Kolkata International Film Festival kick started in Kolkata
The 18th Kolkata International Film Festival began in Kolkata today. 180 films from 60 different countries directed by 120 directors will be exhibited in the festival. The main theme of this year’s Kolkata International Film festival is "Africa".
NOTE:- The 8 day festival was inaugurated by Bollywood’s matinee idol Amitabh Bachchan in the presence of another Bollywood star Shaharukh Khan. The inauguration programme took place at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata.
7. Indo-Canada bilateral trade likely to cross $15 bn by 2015: Bal Gonsal
Canadian Sports Minister Bal Gonsal has said that India is an emerging economic power in the world and his country is ready to increase trade with it. Speaking to media in Jalandhar, on Saturday, he said that by 2015, the trade between India and Canada is likely to cross 15 billion dollars as compared to 6 billion dollars at present. Gonsal, was part of the Canadian delegation led by its Prime Minister, Steven Harper, who had met the Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh recently. He said talks are on for promoting sports activities between both the countries.

According to the UN Department of Public information, Nepal along with seventeen other countries was elected as board members. NOTE:- The fifty-four member ESOSOC is one of the principal organs of the UN which coordinates the economic, social and related work of the UN and its specialized agencies and institutions.

A Switzerland-based company launched an insecticidal bed net and community water filter in the Patna district of Bihar to fight against diseases like Dengue, Malaria and Diarrhoea.
The community water filter launched had a capacity to filter 100 lakh litres. The company is going to have a talk with the state government for support in popularising the items in Bihar. Subsequently, the products would be placed in the open market for sale.
NOTE:- The long-lasting insecticidal bed nets are considered by experts as one of the best defences against vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria that claim several lives.
The basic purpose of launch was to curb the menace of spreading Dengue in Bihar where more than 50 people were diagnosed with dengue this year across Bihar. Around 285 of these cases were confirmed in the capital city of Patna alone since the outbreak of the disease in September 2012.
9. Vodafone India tied up with ICICI Bank for Mobile Money Service "m- pesa"
Vodafone India signed an agreement with ICICI Bank to launch a mobile payment service.
The mobile payment service "m- pesa" is going to be launched initially in Eastern region of the country which includes West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand and is followed by a phased rollout in other parts of the country.
NOTE:- As per the Service Vodafone is offering its customers a mobile money account with ICICI Bank and a mobile wallet issued by Mobile Commerce Solutions Ltd (MCSL). The service will allow customers to make cash deposits and withdrawals from designated outlets as well as make cash transfers to any mobile phone or any bank account in the country.

11. Assam Election Commission announced reservation of 50 per cent seats for women in Panchayat polls.
Assam State Election Commission has announced 50 per cent reservation of seats in the panchayat election for women in a bid to socially and politically empower women.
NOTE:- This decision will come into effect from the forthcoming panchayat election which is likely to be held in February -March next year. In last panchayat poll, one -third seats were reserved for women.
The state has over two thousand two hundred gram panchayats, 188 anchalik panchayats and 20 zilla parishads.
12.U.P. Govt. announced re- introduction of sports quota in government jobs
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced re- introduction of sports quota in government jobs. Previous BSP government had abolished it in many departments. This was announced by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav while inaugurating a three-day Senior National Wrestling Championship at Gonda. He said, all possible steps would be taken to promote and honour sportsmen in the state.
NOTE:- Mr. Yadav also announced that multi-purpose halls will be built in the rural areas to offer a platform to the rural youth to show their sporting talents.
He honoured Olympic medal winner wresters Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt in the function.
13. Sri Lanka clinched ODI series against NZ
Sri Lanka have clinched the one-day series against New Zealand with a comfortable seven-wicket win in the 4th match in Hambantota.
