1.Floral tributes paid to eminent freedom fighter Maulana Azad
Parliamentarians led by Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj have paid floral tributes to eminent freedom fighter Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on his 124th birth anniversary.The parliamentarians paid their tributes in the central hall of Parliament house today.
NOTE:- The birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad i.e. 11th November of every year is celebrated as National Education Day without any holiday on the day.
2. President Pranab Mukherjee Unveils Aakash Version 2.0 Tablet on National Education Day
President Pranab Mukherjee took the occasion of National Education Day to release and dedicate to the nation, the innovative and modestly-priced Aakash Version 2.0 tablet in New Delhi today.
NOTE:- Aakash Version 2.0 is a full-fledged tablet computer. IIT Bombay along with the Ministry of Human Resource Development has created several useful educational applications for the tablet. Teachers and students in the remotest corners of India can join a classroom and benefit from lectures delivered by the best teachers.
4. Uttarakhand topped Planning Commission's green ranking
Uttarakhand has been rated top in the Planning Commission's green ranking based on quality of air and water, waste management, forest cover and climate change.
The panel lists Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Sikkim and Andhra Pradesh as the other top four states on its Environmental Performance Index, which will serve as a measure of a state's green initiative and be linked to financial assistance from the Centre.
NOTE:- The index was prepared after the government in 2010 decided to rework the Gadgil-Mukherjee formula for determining central assistance to states to include an environmental parameter.
5. Government to approve the proposal to set up the National Investment Board (NIB)
Government is likely to approve in the next two to three weeks, the proposal to set up the National Investment Board (NIB) to speed up clearance for large infrastructure projects. This was disclosed by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia at a function in Mumbai. He said, there is a draft Cabinet note proposing the NIB.
6. Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai to meet PM Manmohan Singh
Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai reached New Delhi this evening on the second leg of his 4 day state visit to India. Mr. Karzai will hold talks with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh tomorrow. Various issues including regional situation, safety of Indian nationals and Indian projects in Afghanistan are likely to figure in their discussion. A range of key issues of mutual interest including the India-Afghanistan strategic dialogue on bilateral and regional issues are also expected to come up for discussion in the meeting.
NOTE:- Four pacts are likely to be signed between the two countries, including one in the mining field. Other agreements include in the field of youth affairs, small development projects and fertilizers. India last week cleared a 100-million Dollar aid for the third phase of Small Development Projects in the war -torn country. The projects implemented through local Afghan agencies and community organisations over a period of four years will directly benefit local communities across Afghanistan.
7. BBC director-general resigns over Newsnight fiasco
BBC was on Sunday likened by one of its veteran broadcasters to “a rudderless ship heading towards the rocks” after its new Director General George Entwistle was forced to resign over his handling of a report falsely implicating a former adviser to the former Tory Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, in a child abuse scandal.
NOTE:- Mr. Entwistle, who had been in office for just 54 days, quit after Prime Minister David Cameron warned against a “witch-hunt” over sex abuse allegations and Chris Patten, chairman of the BBC Trust, called the report “shoddy journalism” amid calls for his own resignation.
8. T.S. Eliot's widow died at 86
Valerie Eliot, the widow of T.S. Eliot and zealous guardian of the poet’s literary legacy for almost half a century, has died. She was 86.
9. Maharashtra, Gujarat invite textile investments
Maharashtra and Gujarat governments have come out with textile policies to encourage investment in their States. The features of the policies were explained to textile mill owners here at a meeting organised by the Southern India Mills’.
10. Bharti Airtel shuts network to SMSes from subscribers of Aircel & Reliance Communications
Country's largest mobile phone company, Bharti Airtel, closed its network to incoming text messages from subscribers of two other operators, Aircel and Reliance Communications.
NOTE:- Bharti Airtel executives said the company was forced to do this after the two companies started flooding its network with what they described as "free spam messages", a charge that has been vehemently denied by RCOM and Aircel.
11. Gujarat tops states in number of Muslim policemen
Gujarat, which faced one of the worst anti-Muslim riots in the country barely 10 years ago, has emerged as the state with the largest number of Muslim cops posted in police stations, beating states with a higher proportion of the community in their population.
The data, shared by the home ministry in response to an RTI query filed by TOI, shows that 10.6% of Gujarat's cops posted in police stations are Muslims. This is higher than the proportion of Muslims in the state's population, which is 9.1% (2001 census).
NOTE:- The state has 5,021 cops from the community out of a total of 47,424 in its 501 police stations. On an average, Gujarat has 10 Muslim cops per police station — higher than any other state which shared data with the Centre.

3. MENA region economies to grow up by 5.1 percent: IMF
The International Monetary Fund , IMF has predicted that the economies of the Middle East and North Africa, MENA region will grow up by 5.1 per cent this year from 3.3 per cent in 2011-12. The report says that the biggest challenge in the post Arab Spring countries is how to manage the rising expectations of the people and stabilize an ailing economy where the margin for policy maneuver is limited.4.
