DAILY GK UPDATE: 7TH NOVEMBER

1. President Barack Obama Re-elected President of United States of America
Baracka Obama has been re-elected for a second term as President of the United States. The race was decided when he secured the crucial swing state of Ohio giving him the 270 votes needed to win the Electoral College which picks the President.
2. Nepal’s EC Commissioner appointed as Acting Chief Commissioner
Nepal, Commissioner of the Election Commission Dolakh Bahadur Gurung has been appointed as the Acting Chief Commissioner. He takes over from Nilkanta Upreti who retires from today.
NOTE:- Election Commission, Gurung has been appointed as Acting Chief Commissioner on seniority basis as per the Remuneration of Constitutional Body Officials Act .
3. 3rd NE Youth Festival 2012 kicks off in Arunachal Pradesh
3rd North East Youth Festival 2012 kicked off today at the Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.
NOTE:- Contingents from the entire north eastern states, Odissa, Karnataka, Gujarat, Pondichhery and University of Kolkata are taking part in the three day event.
On the occasion, Olympic bronze medal winner M C Mary Kom was felicitated by the Arunachal Government with a cheque of Rs 10 lakhs for her outstanding performance in the London Games.
4. The World Development Report 2013-Jobs Released by World Bank
The World Development Report 2013: Jobs released by the World Bank stressed upon the role of strong private sector in creation of jobs, outlining the facts that how can the jobs encourage development and incite an honest cycle.
NOTE:-The report in its finding also indicated that when people work, there is an intense fall in poverty as people work out from their hardship and empowerment of women through jobs ensures better investments in children. The non-productive mass turns up to be productive and increase in jobs helps in making of flourished societies proving better alternatives of conflict by fostering diversities.
5.Pakistan won the Asian Kabaddi Championship
Pakistan was declared champion of the Asian Kabaddi Championship after Indian team walked out from the field in a protest against the referee’s decision of penalizing the Indian Coach.
6.India-Canada finalised a Mechanism for Shipping of Canadian Uranium to India 
India and Canada on 6 November 2012 succeeded in creating a mechanism for shipping Canadian Uranium to India clearing the mistrust generated on the Canadian side after the nuclear explosion from India in 1974.
NOTE:-Both the sides were successful inking the agreement on the mechanism of shipment of the Canadian Uranium to India for the first time after 1974. The nuclear trade relations between the two nations were affected, when India used the plutonium that was allegedly abstracted from the Canadian test reactor to carry on a nuclear explosion in the year 1974.
7. South African Government Rolled Out Nelson Mandela Bank Notes
The South African Reserve Bank on 6 November 2012 rolled out new bank notes bearing the face of the country’s first black President Nelson Mandela marking it as a tribute to him.
NOTE:-The Note issued by the South African Reserve Bank, displayed the 94-year-old anti-apartheid icon’s smiling face.
8. Government decided to digitize Cable TV Network in Thirty Eight Cities
Union Government of India decided to digitise Cable TV network in thirty eight cities, spread over 15 States, by 31 March 2013 in the second phase of digitisation.
Earlier, the digitization was completed in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata on the 31October 2012, while in Chennai the deadline was extended till the 9 November 2012 by the Madras High Court.
9. World Rarest Whale Species found in Pacific Ocean
World's rarest whale species - the spade-toothed beaked whale was spotted for the first time by scientists of New Zealand in the Pacific Ocean.
NOTE:-The Spade-toothed beaked whales were first discovered in 1872 when bone fragments of rarest whale species were found on a remote Pacific island.
10. Inter-Ministerial panel on coal blocks recommends de-allocation of eight blocks
Stepping up action against erring PSUs which failed to develop coal mines, the Inter-Ministerial panel on coal blocks has recommended de-allocation of eight such blocks after scrutiny of 19 cases.
It has also asked for imposition of bank guarantee in six cases and deduction in two cases.
NOTE:-The panel's earlier recommendation for de-allocation of 13 mines to private firms has already been accepted by the government,
A coal ministry official said in New Delhi today,among the blocks recommended for de-allocation are Mandakini, Utkal- D and Touli-Paharpur.
11. Chairman of Khaitan Group S.K. Khaitan Passed Away
Shree Krishna Khaitan, the chairman of Khaitan group of companies, passed away on 4 November 2012.
NOTE:- He was a native of Jhunjhunu village in Rajasthan and was born on 15 December 1939. It was S.K. Khaitan who had incorporated the Khaitan group of companies in 1975.
Khaitan Group is one of the leading fan manufacturers in the country with interests in home appliances and lightings business.
