1. India bagged Record Six Medals in London Olympics 2012 as Sushil Kumar settled for Silver
Sushil Kumar, the star Indian grappler, won India its sixth medal on the very last day in London Olympics 2012. The wrestler bagged the silver after his Japanese opponent Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu overpowered him 3-1 in the gold medal bout in the 66-kg freestyle category on 12 August 2012.
2. Government asks public sector banks to open one account for each family in the country.
The government has asked state-owned banks to ensure one account per family to facilitate direct transfer of subsidy under 32 central schemes and to use the latest voter list as a reference for verifying that every household has a bank account.
NOTE: - As per 2011 census, out of the 24.69 crore households, 14.48 crore were reportedly availing banking services. Nearly 10 crore households were not availing the services.
Under Swabhimaan scheme of the government, over 3.25 crore bank accounts in rural areas were opened.
3. CDR biased towards privileged customers: RBI
Reserve Bank Deputy Governor K C Chakrabarty today said that corporate debt restructuring (CDR) process followed by banks, especially state-run lenders, is biased towards more privileged customers.
4. BCCC asked TV Channels to be Extra-cautious while Showing Violence against Women
The Broadcasting Content Complaints Council( BCCC) in its report submitted to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, asked TV channels to be extra-cautious while showing violence against women. BCCC received almost half of the complaints related to obscene scenes during its first year of functioning.
5. Delhi Plan for 2012-13 was finalised at 15862 Crore Rupees
The Annual Plan for the year 2012-13 for the state of Delhiwas was finalised on 9 August 2012 at a meeting between Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit. The plan size has been agreed at 15862 crore rupees.
