Nation today rememberd freedom fighter Pandit Motilal Nehru on his 150th birth anniversary. Addressing a commemorative function organized at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, President Pranab Mukherjee called on every Indian to imbibe the noble values of the great freedom fighter that include tolerance, rational thinking and respect for democratic values and institutions.
2.Shumsher K Sheriff appointed as Rajya Sabha’s New Secretary General
Mr Shumsher K Sheriff, an IAS officer of 1977 batch, has been appointed as the New Secretary General of Rajya Sabha. Mr. Sheriff would take over on 1st of next month on completion of the term of the incumbent, Dr V K Agnihotri. 
3.SU-30 MKI inducted into Western Air Command
The most advanced fighter aircraft SU-30 MKI was inducted into Western Air Command in a formal ceremony at Air Force Station Halwara today. Halwara station, which is located at a strategic location in Punjab, is the base for 220 Squadron which is known as ‘Desert Tigers’.
This frontline aircraft is all-weather air-dominance fighter with multi-role capability, which can undertake varied air combat and ground attack missions.
4.Ajit Pawar resigns as Maharashtra Deputy CM over alleged corruption charges
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar resigned as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Power Minister and Finance Minister today over corruption charges against him. 
NOTE:- It was alleged that during the tenure of Mr. Ajit Pawar, the nephew of NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, as the Irrigation Minister of Maharashtra, there had been irregularities in awarding contracts for irrigation projects.
5.Haryana Government Signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with four independent power producers
Haryana government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with four independent power producers for setting five bio-mass power projects.
The capacity of power projects is of 51 MW and required an investment of 230 crore. Out of four, two projects is going to commissioned soon.
NOTE:-Haryana is among the leading states in implementing energy conservation programmes.
6.UP Govt to issue bio-metric smart cards beneficiaries of PDS
Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday decided to issue bio-metric smart cards to the beneficiaries of Public Distribution System, PDS, and machines at Point of Sale, POS, for the distributors. 
7.Sarah Taylor, Lisa Sthalekar top batswoman & bowler in ICC T-20 rankings
International Cricket Council has named England’s Sarah Taylor and Lisa Sthalekar of Australia as the top batsman and top bowler in the women’s T-20 format. The ranking comes two days ahead of the ICC Women’s World Twenty 20 in Sri Lanka 2012 in Galle on 26 September.
NOTE:- India’s Star batter Mithali Raj is at number three with 652 points while Harpreet Kaur stands at Sixth position with 587 points. Among the bowlers, Jhulan Goswami is at number two with 653 points after Lisa Sthalekar . Sthalekar also leads the all-rounders' category with 356 ratings points with 604 runs and 56 wickets. India’s Amita Sharma is in fifth place in the All rounder’s category with 252 points.
8.IOA elections to be held on Nov 25
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced the date of its elections. IOA acting president Vijay Kumar Malhotra told reporters yesterday that the elections to the apex sports body will be held on November 25. 
9.US welcomes India's decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retail
US has welcomed India's decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retail. Addressing 9th annual Investment Forum in Washington, the under secretary of Economic Growth Energy and Environment Robert Hormats said that these reforms would lead to a stronger, more efficient and resilient Indian economy. He said the new reforms will send the right message to global investors.
10.Government today said that it will soon build the public information infrastructure (PII)
Government today said that it will soon build the Public Information Infrastructure (PII) to democratize information on a big scale. 
Discussing on the democratization of information in the first ever press conference on Twitter in the country, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations, Mr Sam Pitroda asserted that information is important for development and it needs to be timely available to the people. 
NOTE:- PII will include a National Knowledge Network, connecting 1,500 nodes for universities, colleges, research labs and libraries. It will also connect 2.5 lakh panchayats in the country through fibre optics.
11.Bailout package for power distributors to be performance linked: Govt 
Power Minister M Veerappa Moily today said the bailout package for power distributors is to be performance linked. 
Mr Moily announced the setting up of two monitoring committees that will see if state electricity boards (SEBs) are complying with the conditions. A day after the government approved a bailout package for debt ridden distributors, Mr Moily said the distribution companies have so far accumulated losses of 2.4 lakh crore rupees.
12.Govt. approved strengthening and restructuring of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme
Government has approved strengthening and restructuring of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme which will be implemented in a mission mode during the 12th five year plan. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, in New Delhi yesterday. The financial implications for this scheme during this period will be over 1 lakh 23 thousand crore rupees. 
NOTE:-The ICDS scheme is expected to reduce under-nutrition by 10 percentage points in children upto 3 years of age. The scheme will also enhance early development and learning outcomes in all children below six years of age.
