DAILY GK UPDATE: 13TH OCTOBER 2012

1. Justin Rose wins World Golf Final
Justin Rose of England beat European Ryder Cup teammate Lee Westwood by a stroke to win the eight-player World Golf Final in Belek, Turkey and earn a career-best $1.5 million.
2. Corporation Bank denied giving overdraft to Vadra
 Corporation Bank today insisted that it did not advance an overdraft to any of Robert Vadra's companies, adding a twist to the controversy swirling around the remarkable rise in the riches of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law.
Ajai Kumar, CMD of Corporation Bank said "No such transaction with us as per our records so far,” adding that he had sought full facts on the issue.
NOTE:- In its annual report for 2007-08 financial year, Vadra's firm Sky Light Hospitality claimed an overdraft of Rs 7.94 crore from the bank. It was the first year of operation for the company, which had a paid-up capital of just Rs 1 lakh. By the end of the year, the company claimed it had Rs 7.95 crore worth of fixed asset.
 3. ECB President Mario Draghi urges euro zone to keep up reforms
European Central Bank President Mario Draghi pressed euro zone countries on Saturday to make progress with economic reforms as part of a drive towards greater integration among the bloc's 17 members. 
NOTE:- The ECB has taken some of the heat out of the Euro Zone debt crisis by last month unveiling its new bond-purchase programme - dubbed "Outright Monetary Transactions", or OMT - but Draghi urged governments not to become complacent with reforms. 
4. AP Govt introduced new Sand Mining Policy
Andhra Pradesh Government introduced a new Sand Mining Policy under which the old system of auctioning has been dispensed with and a lottery arrangement put in place. 
NOTE:- Based on the recommendations made by a Group of Ministers, which reviewed the sand mining policy in the light of the Supreme Court's verdict banning indiscriminate quarrying, the Industries Department issued an order today framing the revised policy guidelines.
5. Santosh Kashyap resigned from the post of Mohun Bagan Coach
Mohun Bagan's merry-go-round with their coaches continued for yet another season with Santosh Kashyap resigned from the post of Team’s  Coach.
6. Kingfisher extended lockout till 20th Oct
Ailing Kingfisher Airlines today extended its lockout till the next weekend, apparently after failing to convince its striking staffers, protesting delay in salaries, to return to work.
7. Anand shocked by Carlsen in Final Masters
World Champion Viswanathan Anand suffered a shocking loss at the hands of Norwegian Magnus Carlsen in the 9th and penultimate round of 5th Final Chess Masters in Bilbao, Spain.
8. Gary Collins, actor and TV host, died at 74
Gary Collins, an actor who was the longtime host of the syndicated TV show “Hour Magazine” and a former master of ceremonies for the Miss America Pageant, died early Saturday in Biloxi, Miss. He was 74.
9. Rajasthan Govt. appointed Vice Chancellors of two New Universities
Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva has appointed journalist Sunny Sebastian as the vice chancellor of upcoming Haridev Joshi University of Journalism in Jaipur. The Governor also appointed former IPS officer M L Kumawat as the first vice chancellor of Haridev Joshi University of Journalism to be set up in Jodhpur.
10.  FDI in multibrand to be implemented in Delhi next fiscal: CM
Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit said FDI in multibrand will be implemented in the national capital by next financial year and accused BJP of trying to halt India's economic growth by opposing the move.
11. Centre to continue fund sharing pattern for model schools
Government gave nod to continue the fund sharing pattern between the Centre and States during this fiscal for setting up of model schools at block level as benchmark of excellence.
12. Sibal layed foundation stone of NIT in Mizoram
Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal laid the foundation for setting up of the first ever National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Mizoram at Lengpui area, near the lone airport in the state.
13. Debt-ridden Deccan Chargers termination stands
After a month long legal battle, the cash-strapped Deccan Chargers has lost its status as an IPL team after the Bombay High Court stayed the order of Arbitrator for maintaining status quo on the matter till further hearing.
NOTE:- The beleaguered owners of Deccan Chargers failed to produce a Rs 100-crore bank guarantee before the Bombay High Court, a condition that had been set for the struggling team's survival in the league. They later approached the Court-appointed Arbitrator who had passed the order of status quo.
