1.Life of Pi was awarded with two National Tourism Awards by the Ministry of Tourism
Life of Pi was given two National Tourism Awards by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India recognizing the impact it has had in promoting India as a tourism destination, especially Puducherry and Munnar (Kerala). These Awards will be given to Ang Lee, Director of the film ‘Life of Pi’ and Yann Martel, writer of the book of the same name.
NOTE:- The Ministry of Tourism identified Film Tourism as a Niche Tourism product. It has requested the State Governments and Union Territory Administrations to recognize the potential of Film Tourism and constitute special bodies/cells to facilitate filming in their respective States/Union Territories.
2. Italy PM Mario Monti to resign as soon as budget passes
Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti announced on Saturday that he intended to resign once next year's budget is approved in parliament after Silvio Berlusconi's party withdrew its support for his technocrat government this week.
NOTE:- President Giorgio Napolitano is now expected to set the date for an election which must come within 70 days of the government resigning. Italy had in any case been due to go to the polls by April at the latest.

With farmer organisations protesting against implementation of Rangarajan Committee report on de-regulating sugarcane sector, the government has authorised state governments to fix prices for the produce.

Union Bank of India expects Rs 1,000 cr infusion this fiscal as part of recapitalisation plan
Union Bank of India today opened its 180th branch at new Motibagh area in the national capital. The branch has been opened under the Bank’s Nav Nirman transformation initiative, which aims at delivering superior customer services.
Inaugurating the branch, the Chairman and Managing Director of the bank, D. Sarkar said that it is committed to provide better facilities to customers and has also started several special initiatives for the physically handicapped.
4. ADB report: Lagging Asian economies should pick up steam in coming year
New report from the Asian Development Bank says lagging Asian economies should pick up steam in the coming year. The latest Asian Development Outlook Supplement predicts that developing Asia will post a growth of 6 percent in 2012 and 6.6 percent in 2013, about a tenth of a percentage point lower than anticipated in October.
The report said vigorous private consumption in Southeast Asia and a mild economic recovery in China nearly balance out the weaknesses in India's economy.
5. Sanjiv Goenka appointed chairman of BPO service provider Firstsource Solutions
Sanjeev Goenka has been appointed chairman of BPO service provider Firstsource Solutions (FSL), which has been acquired by CESC Ltd through a wholly-owned subsidiary.
NOTE:- Sailesh Mehta had ceased to be the Chairman of FSL but continued as an Independent Director.
6. Government de-recognised the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation
Union government of India de-recognised the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation and the Archery Association of India. The government took this step in the interest of sportspersons.
NOTE:- Earlier, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) had suspended the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation, IABF alleging possible manipulation in its recent elections. However, the IABF has denied the charge, insisting that the process was transparent.
7. Maladives took over Charge of Male Airport scrapping Agreement with GMR
Maladives took charge of Male airport from GMR. Maldives government had scrapped the agreement with GMR on first December 2012, saying that the agreement was not in the interest of the country. Singapore Supreme Court had upheld the right of Maldives to terminate the 25 year contract.
NOTE:- There will be a three-week transition period starting 7 December 2012 at the end of which GMR will stop operating the airport. Maldivian Airport Company Limited, which will run the airport, has agreed to retain all staff, including Indian nationals, on the same terms.
8. Karnataka to Provide Tamil Nadu with 12 TMC feet of Cauvery water: CMC
Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) asked Karnataka to provide Tamil Nadu with 12 TMC feet of Cauvery water during December even as it asked both the states to be more efficient in using available water.
NOTE:- The meeting of the CMC came after the Supreme Court of India asked the multi-state panel to meet within the next two days to decide on water requirement of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.The states sharing the disputed Cauvery River waters were informed that the final award of the Cauvery Waters Dispute Tribunal will be notified by the end of December 2012.
9. New drug policy to cut cap prices of 650 common drugs
Prices of 652 commonly used medicines under 27 therapeutic areas are likely to come down by 10-15% once the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Policy 2012 is notified, which is expected in a few days. The policy, which caps prices of essential drugs, was finalized recently after several twists and turns over the years.
NOTE:- It will cover a wide range of drugs, such as anti-infectives (Cetrizine), cardiac (Aten) and gastro-intestinal medicines (Ocid), pain-killers (Paracetamol) and anti-diabetic drugs (insulin).
10. England Cricket Captain Alastair Cook became the youngest Batsman to score 7000 Runs
England Cricket team captain Alastair Cook claimed his place among the cricketing greats when he set an England record for the most Test centuries and became the youngest player in the long history of the game to pass 7000 runs.
NOTE:- The 27 years old Alastair Cook scored his 23rd Test hundred to leave England closing in on a rare series win in India.
